Magazine Cover

To give the mast head more depth, I simplified the text layer, changed the colour and moved it up and to the right several times. I also added a bevel to the top layer of text so the title has an overall 3d appearance. I used the quick select tool to select the Chapmans children and take them out of the black background that they were on. For the ice-cream bullets I selected the shape and put it onto a new layer and filled the shape with blue to create the solid coloured bullet. I added a gradient to my flash to give it more interest. For the bar code I took a bar code from a real magazine, cropped it used the eye drop tool to match the colour of the back of the barcode and then wiped over the title and replaced it with my own.

File Sorting

It is important that we organize all the files we are creating so that we can hand them in. We learned how to use folders to sort the projects we make.
First folders.

Still keeping them organized, the current file structure.

Communications technology

Seeing as this is a blog for communications technology class, it is only fitting that the first post explains a bit about what that means. The field of communications deals with delivering an idea or message to an audience through different medias such as video, audio, or print . Communications technology is using technologies to create and manipulate the information you wish to share with an audience, and the format you use to deliver this information.

One example of a company that is often involved with the communications field could be a diaper company such as Pampers. If Pampers developed a new product, say a new absorbent diaper, they would want to get the word out. The group in charge of communications for pampers would have to decide on a few things about what they want to tell the public and how to go about it.

First off would be recognizing who the audience is. For Pampers', their product will be used by babies and toddlers, but they are not the ones who will be buying the product. In Pampers' case they would want to market to the parents of those young kids.

Next would be to decide what the message is. Pampers would want to share what makes their product so special and why it is the best choice for their target audience to buy. In this case that their diapers are even more absorbent than before. Often the message can also be built into a slogan or jingle, things that are more likely than plain words to stick in the mind of the audience.

Next would be deciding what type of media they want to use. Print text and graphics, audio, or video are common types of media. Diaper companies such as Pampers often use video as the way to deliver their message. Video can appear many different places such as on television, the internet, or on phone apps. Video is also a good choice for diaper companies because watching babies run around in the product can subconsciously address some of the concerns parents may have about if it will fit and be comfortable for their child.

One last thing to consider is the tools and technology needed to create the communications advertisement. For a video advertisement Pampers would likely use digital cameras and then video editing software. The real life images would appeal to the audience and editing in text, frames with pictures of the product, and adding audio tracks, and narration help capture attention and get the message out.

Combining all these elements of communications,  helps companies such as Pampers to effectively convey the message and persuade people to purchase their products.
